Ingredients for Tuna Stuffed Avocado
For 1 Serving:
For the Tuna Paste:
- 1 can of tuna in water (drained thoroughly)
- 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons of jalapeño vinegar juice (juice only, WITHOUT the peppers)
- 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
- 3 pinches of black pepper to taste
For the Final Mix:
- 4 jalapeños in vinegar (cut into small cubes)
- 1/2 cup of white onion, finely diced
- 1/2 cup of fresh tomato, diced into cubes
- 1 ripe avocado (you’ll use 1/4 per person, save the rest)

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Tuna Paste (3 minutes)
Take a blender and pour in the drained tuna. It’s very important that you drain the tuna thoroughly so the paste reaches the right consistency.
Add:
- 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons of jalapeño vinegar juice (juice only, without the peppers)
- 2 tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 3 pinches of black pepper
Blend everything until it becomes a smooth, creamy paste. If it seems too thick, you can add another tablespoon of Greek yogurt. The consistency should be similar to a pâté.

Step 2: Integrate the Vegetables (3 minutes)
Pour the tuna paste you just prepared into a bowl.
Now add:
- 4 jalapeños in vinegar, cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup of white onion, finely diced
- 1/2 cup of fresh tomato, cut into cubes
Mix very well with a spoon until all ingredients are fully integrated. The mixture should look consistent and flavorful.

Step 3: Prepare the Avocado (2 minutes)
Take the ripe avocado and cut it in half lengthwise (from one side to the other, not top to bottom).
Carefully remove the central seed using a small spoon.
Here’s the important part: You need to use 1/4 of an avocado per person, so with the spoon, gently scoop out a small amount of avocado flesh, creating a cavity. Don’t remove too much, just enough to make space without weakening the avocado’s structure.
Note: Don’t throw away the avocado you removed. You can use it to make homemade guacamole or avocado sauce (check our blog for that recipe).

Step 4: Fill and Serve (1 minute)
With a spoon, generously fill the avocado cavity with the tuna mixture. Distribute the mixture well so the presentation looks beautiful.
Done! Your tuna stuffed avocado is ready to eat for lunch or dinner. Serve with a glass of water with lemon or unsweetened tea.

Laura’s Tips for Perfecting This Recipe
1. Choose Ripe (But Firm) Avocados
An overly soft avocado will crumble when you fill it. Look for one that gives slightly to finger pressure, but still holds its shape. To check: insert a small knife or toothpick. If it goes in smoothly but with slight resistance, it’s perfect.
2. Drain the Tuna Thoroughly
This is critical. If the tuna has too much water, the paste will be watery. Use paper towels after draining the can.
3. Use Greek Yogurt, Not Regular Yogurt
Greek yogurt has almost double the protein and fewer carbs. It’s creamier and healthier for diets.
4. Always Use Fresh Lemon Juice
Freshly squeezed lemon juice makes a HUGE difference in flavor. Avoid bottled lemon juice if you can.
5. Prepare the Paste in Advance
You can prepare the tuna paste 2-3 days in advance and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Only fill the avocado right before eating to prevent it from oxidizing.
6. Don’t Waste the Avocado Scraps
The avocado you remove is perfect for making guacamole or our avocado sauce. Check the recipe on our blog.
